Adjuster Authorization Overview
Qualified applicants applying for a National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Adjuster Authorization are granted a Flood Control Number (FCN) through the Adjuster Authorization process administered by the NFIP Bureau & Statistical Agent on behalf of FEMA.
All qualified applicants are subject to NFIP standards and requirements. NFIP standards and requirements for Adjuster Authorization may be viewed here.
New applicants and adjusters seeking upgrades to their existing authorizations are required to submit a completed application to the NFIP Bureau & Statistical Agent. NFIP adjusters who are seeking to maintain their active status with no change to their existing authorization are not required to submit a new adjuster authorization application. Once attendance is verified at an annual NFIP Adjuster workshop for the current calendar year, previously authorized adjusters are automatically updated in the database maintained by the Claims Administration team. New applicants as well as existing NFIP adjusters are required to attend an annual NFIP Adjuster workshop for the current calendar year in order to maintain active authorization status.
The Adjuster Authorization Application, FEMA Form 086-0-21, may be downloaded at:
The authority to collect the information is Title 42, U.S. Code, Section 4001-4028
