New Orleans, La., March 8, 2006 - This house in Gentilly is in the process of being elevated above the base flood elevation adopted by the community in result of flooding from Hurricane Katrina. The homeowner will raise the house a total of 11' and has received the Increased Cost of Compliance (ICC) benefit included with his National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policy because of his compliance to the community's floodplain management ordinance. Increased Cost of Compliance (ICC) Overview

National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policyholders are eligible for an Increased Cost of Compliance (ICC) claim benefit provided that certain eligibility criteria are satisfied. Compliance activities include elevation, flood-proofing, relocation, and demolition.

NFIP policyholders may receive up to $30,000 under this coverage to comply with state or local floodplain management laws or ordinances. This insurance facilitates an insurance alternative to disaster assistance to reduce the escalating costs of repairing damage to buildings and their contents caused by floods.

The NFIP policyholder may voluntarily elect to assign his or her ICC claim benefit to the local community. Once the Assignment of Coverage D form has been signed by the policyholder, the local community official will forward the Assignment of Coverage D form and Substantial Damage Notification to the NFIP Bureau & Statistical Agent. Upon receipt of both documents, the NFIP Bureau & Statistical Agent will verify the submission and release the appropriate documentation to the WYO Company and/or Vendor. The WYO Company and/or Vendor will contact the local community official and initiate an investigation of the claim.
